The Kind of Teacher I Aspire To Be

I have decided that I want to pursue teaching and become an educator. It's time to figure out precisely what kind of teacher I aspire to be in the future because this will help me ensure that my choice will reflect my personality, skills, and goals.

I aspire to be a teacher who is confident and competent. An adaptable teacher that continually strives to learn new teaching skills and strategies. I want to be the teacher with full knowledge, with the best qualities and practices in teaching required to bring quality learning to students because I believe quality learning is subject to quality teaching.

I want to be a teacher who has a big heart. A teacher who's patient and understanding. Able to communicate with my students and understand their differences and commonalities, so I can quickly know their learning styles and what teaching strategy to approach. I want to inspire them to know their significant purpose in life.

Every teacher is unique and different. But as a future teacher, my goal is to make a meaningful impact on the lives of my students, to continue challenging themselves to do better, and to pursue their goals in life no matter how harsh the world is. I want my students to remember me as the teacher who helped them reach their life goals by providing them with the tools and knowledge they needed to succeed.

My Ethical Stance for Teaching via Online or Flexible Learning Modality

I believe that teachers are role models. And to know how to set a positive example for the students, they must know the code of ethics for teachers. A code of ethics will guide teachers to understand the standards and responsibilities they are accountable to uphold. Whether teaching in the means of face-to-face or online, a teacher must know how to present themselves. Not only in how they dress in front of their students or communicate in class.

Reflection: The Need to Uphold the Legal Mandates of the Teaching Profession

Are teachers being humiliated, ridiculed, and dishonored? "Teacher-shaming" we probably already heard that word. This issue isn't a new thing in this society. Looking past the teachers who experienced teacher-shaming, several teachers are erroneously accused of violating children's human rights. Because of these accusations, teachers experienced shaming on different platforms, especially social media. Like what happened in 2019, in one of the segments of "Raffy Tulfo in Action" that was widely broadcasted on television and other online platforms. It is about a complaint against a teacher about the way of disciplining her students. That teacher was not only forced to quit and give up her profession but was also humiliated and disrespected.

Teachers are to implement reasonable disciplinary actions over the conduct of the students while protecting their dignity and respect. To prevent me from being teacher shamed or conflicting with the law, it is necessary to uphold the legal mandates of the teaching profession.

As a future educator, I must know that my actions will always have consequences. Understanding the legal mandates containing the rules and regulations I must follow will serve as a foundation and a guide for me to know how to exercise my rights as a teacher rightfully. Through upholding the legal mandates provided for teachers, as a future teacher, I will familiarize myself with the limitations of my actions that come from my duty to prevent any problems regarding discipline and classroom management.
